Ancient jewellery collection highlights luxurious life of MayansThursday, 15th April 2004 (4027 views) A host of ancient gold jewellery will form part of a new Mayan collection on show in Washington this month.The 'Courtly Art of the Ancient Maya' exhibition will display a number of Mayan artefacts including the most extensive showcase of Mayan jewellery ever seen in the US, according to the Home Forum. Reportedly Mayan designs all reflected the idea of being divine and sophisticated, mixing well with the luxury of the precious metal gold. Some of the items include a mirror made of pyrite - fool's gold, designed in a way to resemble turtle shells and were seen as item owned by the nobility. The works of art come from collections from Mexico, Central America, Europe, and the US and will be on shown in The National Gallery of Art.
