Russian geologists make a golden discoveryTuesday, 6th April 2004 (3325 views) Geologists in Russia have discovered huge deposits of around 1,000 tonnes in gold in an area prone to earthquakes.Anatoly Zaitsev, Altai's top geologist commented on the discovery in Altai and claimed that undiscovered reserves could in fact be five times higher, according to the St Petersburg Times. Russia has been cited as one of the greatest unexplored gold regions and reportedly undiscovered reserves of various precious metals in northern Altai could be around 60 million tons. In addition Sukhoi Log, the second largest undeveloped gold deposit in the world could have around 1,029 tonnes of gold. Exploration has already begun to uncover more gold reserves and Russia is now at the centre of attention of the big mining companies across the world.
