The increases are thought to be due to a growing sophistication in Chinese shoppers and new credit card and Hong Kong travel regulations. Marketing director for King Fook jewellery shops in Hong Kong, Victoria Lai explained to The Globe and Mail: "They come here and ask for products by name." Among the products purchased by mainland shoppers are expensive watches priced at $15,000.
