Dubai is now the second biggest importer of Italian gold jewellery after the US.

A recent meeting between members from Dubai, Italy and gold organisations found that 1.7 billion AED of gold jewellery is imported in Dubai from Italy, according to AME Info.

Present at the meeting were the director general of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the executive director of 'Fiera Di Vicenza' and the Managing Director of the World Gold Council.

Mr. Andrea Turcato, executive director of 'Fiera Di Vicenza', the organisation that promotes Italian jewellery, announced that a distribution centre was planned for the AME since Italian jewellery has such a key position in the region.

The Dubai Chamber has been invited to visit Venice during a range of different jewellery shows as well by Mr Turcato.

The AME was also the first port to reveal an Italian gold jewellery collection 'Damas', according to the World Gold Council, something which Mr Barakat the MD for the WGC in the Middle East, Turkey and Pakistan referred to in the meeting.
