Gold jewellery exhibition borrows from VictoriansFriday, 12th March 2004 (4328 views) A new Victorian jewellery exhibition in the Indian town of Calcutta is underlining the lasting appeal of gold jewellery. The show at the Jewel Company store at HHI showcases a number of finely detailed gold items, proving popular with visitors. A collection of pendant sets and bracelets studded with gold and silver have been touched up using an oxidised finish to give them an antique feel. I've been travelling abroad a lot and have culled many of these ideas from a variety of jewellery exhibitions across Europe and America, Nikunj Lodha, a young designer and owner of the store, told The Telegraph. The gold jewellery follows an ornate path, providing a high level of detail and finesse to reflect Victorian tastes. Other pieces boast motifs from the Mughal era as well, combining different eras and cultures in the jewellery. The exhibition, which runs until March 15th, typically uses pieces with a 50 per cent gold and 50 per cent silver mix, which are matched with an array of different precious stones.
