Speciality jewellery stores set to shine in India

Tuesday, 17th February 2004 (5211 views)

A group of speciality malls are being planned dedicated to jewellery retailing such as gold, diamond and platinum, by the Aarens Group in India.

The first of such malls in Delhi, entitled Gold Souk (Arabic for Gold Bazaar), is set to be expanded to nine stores across the country over five years.

Approximately 1.8 sq ft big, the mall will contain local, national and international jewellery manufacturers retailing their products.

Being promoted by Northern India real estate business Aarens Group, the malls are being provided as a platform for various jewellery manufacturers, with a dedicated space in each for branded jewellery and the rest displaying more traditional jewellery.

President of Aarens Gold Souk, G S Pillai, told the Financial Express: 'We are looking to provide variety, ambience and quality through Gold Souk. Gold Souk will be a pure retail mall dedicated to jewellery, be it gold, diamond or platinum. We are looking to invest in the region of R360 in the nine Gold Souks.'

Intended as an option to traditional jewellery shops, which Indians often visit, the stores will hold a number of events around festive occasions to run in line with the tradition of buying jewellery at these times.
