Hollywood is set to see the stars come out in shining gold jewellery following the staging of the annual Oscars preview show.

Icons on display on the runway at the 76th annual Academy Awards Fashion Preview show included a string of top-level fashion designers, with many boasting stunning bejewelled outfits.

The latest fashions from Christian Dior, Richard Tyler, Gianfranco Ferre, Halston, Lucca Lucca, Zang Toi, Richard Tyler, John Varvatos, Valentino and Morgane Le Fay were all on show.

Oscar fashion coordinator Patty Fox said the appearance of the stars on Oscar night was an event in itself.

'Inside the theatre, the evening is all about film. But on the red carpet, it's the look that counts,' she commented.

Ms Fox said the Oscar red carpet was now considered the largest fashion show in the world.

Previous years have been famous for the stunning gold jewellery on display, with Whoppi Goldberg once hosting the Oscars covered in $108 million worth of jewels.
