Lovers prepare to embrace a golden Valentine's Day

Friday, 13th February 2004 (4408 views)

Jewellery retailers are preparing for their annual bonanza as romantic shoppers across the world plan to give gold to their Valentine.

In the US the celebration of Valentine's Day is particularly busy, as lovers head to the jewellery store to find the perfect gift.

A number of gold retailers have announced lines to coincide with the day, with a full range of gifts on offer.

Wal-Mart has initiated a major new range of jewellery gifts in the US, including a quarter-carat heart pendant in 14-karat gold from its Keepsake collection.

In the UK the department store John Lewis has offered its own range of gold jewellery, including a Heart Charm Bangle.

In Hatton Garden, the heart of London's jewellery sector, HGO is offering a wide selection of gold jewellery as it gears up for the big day.

The firm is offering discounts on a number of ranges and has unveiled an unusual Brazilian woven gold collar collection, available in 18k or 9k with 18k plating.

The US Census Bureau says February is the second busiest month for jewellers only just behind December.
