Crystallised gold takes centre stage in TucsonThursday, 5th February 2004 (3893 views) The unusual phenomenon of crystallized gold will feature at a special exhibition during the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society Show in February.Gold is a member of the cubic system of crystallography and, in some rare circumstances, gold can be found displaying the different habits of the cubic system, hence crystallised gold. Examples of gold in the exceptional form of an octahedron, a cube and a dodecahedron from the collections of F. John Barlow and from the Harvard Mineralogical Museum will be on display at the show in Arizona, according to the National Jeweler. The exhibit will also include Victor Goldschmidt's 'Literature of Crystallized Gold,' an atlas of crystal forms by the noted scientist that shows examples of crystallized gold and offers literary references and localities for the gold. Aptly, this will be the 50th or golden anniversary of the show arranged by the Gemological Institute of America and the Geo-Literary Society. It will take place at the Tucson Convention Center.
